Super Bowl Sunday Party Food Ideas

Here in the South, football season gathers folks across the state to rally for their die-hard team (South Carolina Gamecocks, being my team!). We raise our kids at these weekend tailgates. We spend Saturdays and Sundays watching the game from bars. We even make our own outdoor tailgates when watching the game at home.

Super Bowl Sunday is no exception!

proper football tailgate is part of Southern culture, and if there's one thing we know, it's that no game day is complete without a spread of delicious Superbowl finger foods.

If you are a South Carolinian like me, your Super Bowl party food probably consists of the basics – potato salad, crock pot meatballs, pigs in a blanket, and good ol' fashion BBQ! Well, it's time to think outside the box a little.

Tailgate Food with Callie's Hot Little Biscuit

Here are my tips and tricks for preparing easy Super Bowl party food and recipes (that are not Bojangles tailgate special!):

Callie's Tailgate Nooner Kit

#1: Mini Sausage Sandwiches + Grits Bar.

Don't sleep on these breakfast staples, y'all! If you have seen How She Rolls, you know that our Sausage Biscuits were inspired by drive-through breakfast sandwiches that I used to eat as a child. These were key for game day! It is important to fuel up for a big day in the sun with a couple of brews!

Shrimp and Grits Bowl

#2: Crock pot grits bar for the win!

Crock pot grits are a touchdown in so many ways. They are a "set it and forget it" hot dish that everyone at your tailgate can enjoy their way. I use our Carolina Grits overnight recipe (on the back of the bag), then pop my crock pot in the car until our tailgate is set up and I can plug it back in to keep the grits warm. Set out accoutrements like our Pimento Cheese (for an extra Cheesy Super Bowl recipe!), chopped bacon, cheddar cheese, scallions, and bacon crumbles.

This is also a great gluten-free Super Bowl party recipe!

Sausage Biscuits & Red Clay Hot Sauce

#3: Sausage biscuits keep everyone full.

Pro Tip - reheat your sausage biscuits at home by wrapping them in foil and reheating them in a 400 degree oven. Just before you leave the house to go to your Super Bowl Party, pop them (still wrapped in the foil) into a hot cold bag to keep them warm throughout your travels.

If you are grilling, you can also use your tailgate grill for a smoked-sausage taste! I tested this when I visited Pitmaster Rodney Scott while filming for How She Rolls, season one. Keep the biscuits wrapped in foil and pop them on a warm grill. They will have a delicious smoky taste to them that you can't get from an oven!

Fried Chicken Sliders on a buttermilk biscuits topped with a pickle chip and sriracha mayo

#4: Fried Chicken Sliders are a crowd pleaser.

Score some extra points with your guests with this super easy Fried Chicken Slider hack. Simply order fried chicken from your fav local spot and cut into bite size pieces for an snackable sammie. Our Buttermilk Biscuits make for the perfect, fluffy and buttery base. At our eateries, we love to add sriracha mayo and homemade pickles, but you can't go wrong with a drizzle of Carolina Honey!

Callie's Hot Little Biscuit Baker's Dozen

#5: When you can't prep at home, prep with Callie's Hot Little Biscuit eateries!

Not everyone has time to prepare a Super Bowl food recipe. That's when most turn to fast food. Next time you are in need of an easy tailgate food to bring to a friend's spot, try a small business! Our Callie's Hot Little Biscuit eateries (Charleston, S.C.) bakers dozens make the perfect noon game treat!

FAQ: Fun Food for Super Bowl Sunday

What are easy Super Bowl recipes to make before the party?

  • We have a whole host of Southern recipes for you to treat your crew to. For starters, Slaw for Everything - a seriously simple and delicious version of coleslaw. Eat it by itself, put it on a sandwich or a hot dog, or have it as a side. Make stress-free mini BLT biscuit sandwiches at the party with bacon you made beforehand. And for a sweet treat, make our Strawberry Shortcake Cobbler recipe and top them with sprinkles in your team's colors!

Which Super Bowl foods travel well?

  • Crock pot chili (like Carrie's Frito Pies!) is always easy to bring to the party, which is why it's been featured in several Today Show Super Bowl recipes over the years. Keep the theme going with the Today Show Tasting, a collection of handmade biscuits with fiery and traditional pimento cheese. If you'd like, you can add pimento cheese too! Pre-made sandwiches also travel well, but remember to keep the ingredients separate to avoid them getting soggy.
